Sketch and Stash Challenge - 11 April 2011

 

Over at the Sketch and Stash Challenge they have a sketch that I have used to plan out this card.  I deliberated on which way to have the sketch but decided to go with how it is originally.  I have used various scraps of brightly coloured papers from my stash (these papers I must have had for about 3 years but I am determined to keep on using up papers like I did for the whole of last year) and then a spotty DCWV paper which I have distressed the edges with and also highlighted some of the spots with Stickles/Distress Stickles (oh I got some new Spiced Marmalad Distress Stickles and it is soooooo yummy) to add some glitter/shine.  The image is from Kenny K and I have coloured her in with Promarkers, cut her out with a Nestabilities die, distressed the edges and mounted it on a Pampered Pets embossing folder which I cut out and distressed the edges.  I have used a Cuttlebug stamp die-cut which I've had for about six months and it's never been out of the packet but I cut it into mirri card and then cut in half for the corners accent as needed by the sketch.  The card is finished off with some bright orange ribbon, red/orange card candy, sentiment off the computer and some thin lace tied as a ribbon.  So for Sketch and Stash Challenge you have to follow the sketch and also use some new/neglected stash (I have used some very neglected papers and used my new Distress Stickles).

Craft Your Passion Challenge - 4/4/11

Over at the Craft Your Passion Challenge the topic is "anything goes".  I have used one of my new The Crafty Purple Frog decoupage sheets called Jewelled Mermaid.  Isn't she just gorgeous?  I have used scraps of paper from my stash box including some of my glittery Henbury lane papers - not many bits left boo hoo.  I have highlighted areas of my decoupage with my Sakura Stardust clear pen for some extra sparkle.  The flower I have made with a Woodware punch and done one layer in glitter paper and the other vellum for a bit of texture.  The card is finished off with some butterflies from the decoupage sheet, ribbon and a die-cut sentiment.  I'm sorry for the poor photo but what with the glitter and the foil die-cut sentiment I didn't have much chance of a good photo.

Crafts and Me Challenge - 6 April 2011

Over at the Crafts and Me Challenge this week the topic is "glitter".  For those that know me, glitter and I are not a marriage made in heaven but I had to take part as I wanted to use my new Crafts and Me stamp that I got from my eldest son for Mother's day.  I have wanted this Jasmine Becket-Griffith stamp called Pink Lightning for a few months now but every time I've gone to order it has been out of stock but I got an e-mail 2 weeks ago to say it was back in and my son was asking what else I wanted for Mother's Day as a punch set he was going to get was out of stock so Pink Lightning came my way along with a set of Sweet Pea stamps or she'd have been lonely!!!

The gingham, scroll and paisley/heart backing paper I got from the Funky Fairy before she shut her webstore down.  I chose the bright pinks for a change.  I have done some matting and layering and added some pink raffia ribbon to the top layer on both the front of the card and inside.  I then cut up some of paisley shapes and placed them around the card inside and out.  The image I have coloured with Promarkers and various Sakura Stardust pen including a pink and clear.  I didn't have a die-cut shape that she'd fit on without losing a wing or foot so I cut her out, used Tim Holtz's distressing tool and then inked the edges with a Rose Bud Memento ink pad along with edging all the backing papers.  I am a bit like Phil from DoCrafts that goes on ideal World/Create and Craft as he inks the edges of his matting and layering as well.  The card is then finished off with a sentiment off the computer edged with the Rose Bud Memento ink pad, some flowers, seam binding ribbon bow, doily, gems and a gorgeous glittery butterfly with sparkly gem down the centre.

Sweet Pea Stampers Challenge - 8 April 2011

Oh what a joy is was to be part of the Sweet Pea Stampers Design Team and look at all the cards/projects were made for the "pack a punch" challenge for the last fortnight.  This fortnight's challenge is "something for your mum/hero".

This is the card that I made for my mum for Mother's day.  I didn't think she'd like as she's not really into fairies and the card wasn't green but she loved her card.  I have used my Caron Vinson Sweet Pea stamp called Royal Flower.  Isn't she gorgeous?  I have coloured her with Promarkers and highlighted areas with my Sakura Stardust clear pen.  I cut various mounts out with my Nestabilities, distressing the edges along with the edges of the K&Co papers used for matting and layering.  The petals underneath the die-cuts are from three large blossoms flowers that I bought, I chopped up into individual petals and stuck on.  I'd got about half way round and thought "why did I do this?" but when it was finished I liked the effect it gave.  The card is finished off with a sentiment off the computer, flowers, a flowery ribbon and some gems (well rather a lot of gems - I nearly used a whole sheet - but if you can't use them in a large quantity on a card for your mum when can you?).

Crafty Ann's Challenge - 8 April 2011

Another fortnight seems to have flown by.  Thanks for such lovely entries for the last challenge of "be inspired by Elvis".  I did learn the names of some of his songs that I didn't know.

This fortnight the topic is "raise a smile!" so Crafty Ann wants to see a card/project that will cheer someone up.  For my card I have used Crafty Ann's jeans digital stamp and also the cupcake digital stamp.  I have also used two of the mottled stone backing papers.  Both the jeans and the cupcake have been coloured in with Promarkers.  I have distressed the edges of the papers used.  For the cupcake I have used card candy as an accent and put glossy accents to make the cherry on the top shine.  The card is then finished off with sentiments off the computer, two ribbons and some more card candy.

Digis with Attitude Challenge - 1/4/11

Over at the Digis with Attitude Challenge Blog the topic this week is "anything goes".  Here is another card I have made for the Docrafts Appeal.  Gosh although some of the cards I have made are quite basic I'm still only just getting them inside the plastic envelope that is provided for the appeal along with an envelope.  Thankfully a lot of toppers or digital images I use can take "centre stage" and don't need much embellishing.

For my card I have used a Digis with Attitude image called Sicky Pooh.  I have simply coloured the image in with Promarkers and then cut out with my Nestabilities die and distressed the edges with a chalk ink pad.  I have mounted the image on 3D foam onto a gorgeous embossed card I got in some candy last year.  I have then simply finished off the card with a peel-off sentiment and some card candy.

Ooh La La Creations Challenge - Guest Design Team Card - 4 April 2011

Another fortnight has come and gone and I've now completed my first month as a Guest Designer for the Ooh La La Creations Challenge Blog.  The challenge for this fortnight is "Easter".  For my card I have used the image and inserts of an Easter basket from the Fleur D'Imagination CD.  I have used the gorgeous Easter basket decoupage and cut it out and mounted it on some Nestabilities die-cuts.  I have then done some matting and layering with the co-ordinating backing paper and gold mirri card.  I have added some raffia ribbon, gems, sentiment made on the computer and a die-cut swirl made from a Marianne's die.

Sentimental Sundays - 3/4/11

Over at the Sentimental Sundays Challenge this week the topic is "let's get wet".  I printed off two Sassy Cheryl images and used one for a card for a challenge and the other was this gorgeous image that was feeling very lonely so I have coloured in with Promarkers, highlighted areas with my Sakura Stardust clear pen and glossy accents for the wellington boots and puddle and made up into a card.  All the papers/card are just scraps including a gorgeous glittery paper from Henbury Lane.  The flowers I have made using a die-cut shape with 3 layers on each flower all the same size and one layer coloured with Aqua Promarker, the second with Duck Egg Blue and the last one Sky Blue.  I then scrunched up the flowers and added a brad to the centre.  The card is finished off with some ribbon, sentiment off the computer and a gorgeous spotty brad from Henbury Lane which I won in some blog candy late last year and I've looked at them long enough and now they must be put on cards/projects.

Prairie Fairy Challenge - 1/4/11

Here is another A6 card made for the Craft for Life Docrafts Appeal.  Over at the Prairie Fairy Challenge this week the topic is "oh so spring".  I thought this gorgeous Prairie Fairy image fitted that perfectly.  It was yet another image I had coloured previously but not made up into a card.  The image has been coloured with Promarkers, areas highlighted with Stickles and the image cut out with a Nestabilities die-cut and distressed with a chalk ink pad.  The card is an A6 card I was given and on top is a scrap of a green abstract paper from Crafty Ann's Digi Store.  The card is finished off with a sentiment off the computer, card candy and some leaves cut from an X-cut punch.

Karen's Doodles Netherlands Challenge - 29 March 2011

It seems such a while since I entered a Karen's Doodles Challenge.  I have been trying to use some images I've already printed off and coloured for some cards for the Docrafts Card for Life Appeal.  You can only use A6 cards and I know that stops a lot in making cards.  I only use A6 cards when I am making cards for the Appeal throughout the year.

Over at the Karen's Doodles Netherlands Challenge this week the topic is "make you own embellishments".  For my card I have used an aperture card I was given and put a scrap of backing paper behind.  I have coloured this cute bear with my Promarkers.  He's got a gorgeous array of flowers in his hands - wish they were for me!!  I have finished the card off with a peel-off sentiment, Stickles glitter glue, card candy and then I have made two flowers (cut with a scallop circle die-cut out of a book, inked the three layers with two shades of pink and the bottom layer is red, held together with a bread, all scrunched up and then Stickles added to the edges).

Less is More Challenge - 2 April 2011

Well it's a few weeks since I had time to play with the Less is More Challenge.  It's amazing how things can change with crafters as on a Saturday I would never have imagined it would be one of the first challenges I looked at.  That's no disrespect to Chrissie and Mandi but more in the fact that I could never do "less is more" cards and love my embellishments be it flowers, gems, ribbon etc.  This weeks' topic at the Less is More Challenge is a "touch of red".

Last year when I went to a friend's house we spent some time stamping out some images for me to use for my cards that I make for charity.  Unfortunately, I am unable to tell you the make of this stamped image.  Isn't she just gorgeous though?  I would have loved to be around to wear hats like that.  I have mounted the image on some red mirri card for both cards and elevated on foam pads.  One card is finished off with a Happy Birthday sentiment and three black squares of peel-off waste and the second card is finished off with a "To a Special Friend" sentiment and four squares of peel-off waste.  Both cards I have used the technique of using masking tape to transfer the peel-offs to ensure they stay in a straight line as no matter how I try I can sometimes get it wonky.  Both of these cards I shall drop off with another batch to my local Marie Curie Shop next week and they can sell them for the Docrafts Craft for Life Appeal.

The Crafty Purple Frog Challenge - 31 March 2011

The topic this fortnight for the Crafty Purple Frog Challenge is "shape up with us".  I like doing different shaped cards so I had to have a go at this challenge.  I have used a die-cut scallop and circle that I won in a challenge.  I have then cut a circle and a star using my Cricut Expression.  I have done some stitching detail around the star and circle.  The image I have used is from the Crafty Purple Frog and is called Nostalgia.  She is absolutely gorgeous and wasn't too much trouble to cut out.  I have highlighted areas with my Sakura Stardust clear pen for some sparkle.  The card is finished off with a feather, ribbon, two heart pins, flowers (which I have added some Stickles to in places), gems, chipboard swirls coloured with Promarkers and buttons.

Allsorts Challenge - 26 March 2011

Over at the Allsorts Challenge this week the topic is "for a special lady".  I was asked to make a card for someone to show their love and they'll give it on Mother's Day to that special someone.  I decided to use on of my new Ching Chou-Kuik Sweet Pea Stamps for this card.  I have stamped the image with black Memento and coloured in with Promarkers and my Sakura Stardust clear pen to highlight areas.  The flowery backing paper is from K&Co and the green abstract paper is from Crafty Ann's Digi Store.  The card is then finished off with some lace, Papermania Glitterations, ticket sentiment with love stickers and a die-cut butterfly.

Aud Sentiments Design Team Card - Thursday 31 March 2011 - Sentiment for a Child

Here is my card that I have made for the challenge.  I have used this gorgeous image of a little boy with his dog.  The little boy is enjoying reading whereas the dog is just loving being with his best friend.  I have coloured the image in with Promarkers and distressed the edges along with the edges of all the scraps of paper/card I have used.  I have put some red mirri card through a star embossing folder to give a boy feel to the card.  I have raised the image and number on foam pads to give some extra height.  The card is finished off with a ticket sentiment, No 5 sticker, some chipboard page holders with stripy brads through the centre.

Card for my Mum for her Birthday

It is my mum's birthday on Monday and we are going over to hers tomorrow for her "birthday tea".  Yes, it's a day early but we've had to it tomorrow as my husband works shifts.  I am safe putting her card on here though as she doesn't look at my blog.

My mum loves gardening/anything to do with outdoors so I made this card with an image from Joanna Sheen's Jayne Netley Mayhew CD.  It's a decoupage that either goes on 2 or 3 A4 sheets.  It took a while to cut out but is very effective when decoupaged.  I have used backing papers from the CD as well and distressed the edges with Tim Holtz's Shabby Shutters distress ink pad along with the green card.  My mum loves green although I hate green so I am always unsure how things work on a card when I don't like the colour.  My husband normally tells me whether I've got it right or not and he says I've got it right so that is a relief.  For the "dead side" of the card I have used my Pampered Pets embossing frame and distressed the edges along with some paper/card.  The image has been coloured in with Promarkers some time ago - and before I now write in pencil on the back who the designer is - so I apologise for not mentioning the designer.  I have then done a personalised insert and on the "back page" I have used a Shelly's image coloured with Promarkers and distressed the edges.  The card is finished off with two lots of ribbon, some copper pearls, sentiment off the computer and I have embossed a swirl background onto some card for the sentiment to sit on.  I have highlighted areas of the image with my Sakura Stardust clear pen to add some sparkle.

I just hope my mum likes her card.

Sweet Pea Stampers Challenge - 25 March 2011

Today is the day for my first card made as part of the Sweet Pea Stampers Design Team.  Am I excited?  Maybe you might hear my squeals of delight across the world.

Onto the challenge.  The topic for this fortnight is "pack a punch" and you have to use punches or die-cuts on your card/project.  For my card I have used "Spring Spread" from Ching-Chou Kuik.  I have coloured her in with Promarkers and highlighted areas with my Sakura Stardust clear pen.  I then did a faux pyromage by putting next-but-one dies onto the image, taped and die cut.  The outside is flat, the next later has one lot of foam pads and the centre layer has two foam pads in height.  The backing papers are scraps from my box, some of which have been edged with my silver Pentouch pen.  I have embossed some card with Swiss Dots and then punched the edge with my Martha Stewart lattice punch.  I then die-cut some flowers with a Marianne Designs die, added a flower sequin and it's all held together with a brad.  The other flower has been made from die-cut book pages distressed with Tim Holtz's Peeled Paint and Shabby Shutters ink pad.  The button is held in place with some wire.  The card is then finished off with some gems, card candy and some gingham ribbon.
