Pile it On Challenge - 18 September 2011

Over at the Pile it On Challenge this week the topic is "the colours of fall".  For me these colours are orange, brown, green, yellow and purple - as these are the colours of changing leaves.  For my card I have used some K&Co and Prima papers.  The image is from the Crafty Purple Frog and is called "The Glance".  I have embossed some orange card with a flower/swirl embossing folder and distressed the edges with a brown chalk ink pad.  The decoupage I cut out, raised up with Pinflair glue gel and edged with some lace.  The card is finished off with flowers with brad centres, pearls, stitching, Glitterations, pearl pin, Marianne Designs die-cut leaf and butterflies and Craftwork Cards sentiment.

Crafty Ann's Challenge #50 - Around the world

Well we had another fortnight with a gorgeous array of entries for the Crafty Ann's Challenge.  This time Ann has challenged us to "around the world".
Instead of a card I decided to do a scrapbook layout for our recent holiday to Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland.  I made the page in Craft Artist and used two of Crafty Ann's polished stone backing papers in yellow and light blue.  I then imported the seaside scene and the bird from photos we took on holiday and added some frames, bucket and spade, boat, beach huts, fish and shells.  I then imported Crafty Ann's Country Scene Faberge Style Egg.  I printed it off and then coloured the image with my very trusty Promarkers.

I am entering this scrapbook page into the following challenges:

Another Commissioned Birthday Card

The same lady wanted a card made for her dad's birthday the day after her mum's birthday.  I asked if her dad had a sense of humour as when she said he liked bowling I had seen a perfect image if he did have a sense of humour.  As she said "yes" off I went to buy the digital image sheet from Crafts U Print.  It is designed by the ever so talented Gordon Fraser.  For those of you into CDs you might recognise his work with Debbi Moore CDs.  I printed off the sheet twice so that I could do some extra decoupage work/add extra embellishments to the card.  I used the piece for the insert, used the snapshot tool and then took it into Craft Artist and then added the words before printing off.  The card is finished off with a sentiment off the computer and embellishments off the sheet.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Inspire me Friday - Anything goes
Cardmadfairy's Digi Days - Lots of layers
Crazy Challenge - Men only

I was asked to make a commissioned card for a friend of my son for her mother.  I have used Joanna Sheen's Jayne Netley Mayhew CD and used this gorgeous decoupage.  It takes a while to cut out but it is well worth it.  I have used some backing papers from the CD and also some polished stone backing papers from Crafty Ann's Digi Store.  The card is finished off with a verse, die-cut flowers with brad centres, ribbon, pearl heart pins, sentiment off the computer and some pearls.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Sweet Pea Stampers Challenge - 16 September 2011

A fortnight has flown around again and it is time for Team A's new challenge.  The challenge for Sweet Pea Stampers this week is "your favourite colour".
Well, for anyone that knows me I love purples/lilacs so that had to be the colours I chose for my card.  I used a Ching Chou-Kuik's image called Soft Goth Night and coloured her in with Promarkers, tore around the image (yes a bit scary after all that colouring in), inked the edges with a chalk ink pad and put some glitter glue on top and left to dry.  The backing papers are various ones from my scraps box and some are DCWV and Henbury Lane.  With a piece of DCWV card I embossed it and then distressed it by sanding.  The card has been finished off with some lace, glass decoration, flowers, gems and Craftwork Cards sentiment.

I am also entering this card into the following challenges:

Well we had a WONDERFUL array of entries to the Crafty Purple Frog Challenge.  Make sure you so and have a look at the winners.  The challenge for this fortnight is "fall into fall" ie autumn colours/leaves etc.
For my card I have used the Crafty Purple Frog image called the "Perfect Pumpkin".  I have used the decoupage version but there is also a pyromage/invertage sheet as well.  The backing papers are from K&Co, DCWV and the gorgeous brown Steampunk-style sheet is from a Prima pad.  I was so sad to use it but I thought it worked well for the card so I had to take a deep breath and put double-sided tape on it!!  I have embossed a piece of DCWV card to add some texture.  The card is finished off with a Craftwork Cards sentiment, 3 X-cut leaf punches used to punch out leaves from the backing papers/card used and flowers with a brad centre.

Aud Sentiments Design Team Card - Thursday 15 September 2011 - Get Well Card

Well what a wonderful turnout we had over the last fortnight for the Aud Sentiments Challenge.  If you want to find out the name of the winner click here.
This fortnight we are sponsored by "Daisy Doodles".  Here is a little bit of information about them:
"My name is Jules aka Daisy Doodles.  I have been doing digis for a little over a year now and I love it!!  I draw what is normally described as "cute style" images and I tend to prefer the cuter side of images - it must be the child in me.  In store there is a varied range of stamps that I sell alongside printable papers.  There will also be scrapbooking kits in store soon.  I would love to see anything that anyone makes using my images.  I also have a challenge blog where you are all more than welcome to join me and my awesome design team."
For my card I have used the Daisy Doodles image called "Feelin' Bad Freddy".  Doesn't he look a sorrowful bear all tuck up in bed.  I decided I would make a male orientated get well card for my charity stall.  I have coloured my image in with Promarkers and decided to cut the image out.  The backing papers are all from my stash and are DCWV and Papernation.  I have just done plenty of layering.  The card is finished off with some raffia ribbon, sentiment off the computer, buttons and a bow.

Birthday Card

I needed to make a birthday card for someone so I decided to use the stamp my son bought me for Mother's Day from Crafts and Me entitled Pink Lightning by Jasmine Becket-Griffith.  I have coloured her in with Promarkers, made the sky effect around her with some sparkly chlaks, ripped around the image, inked the edges with a chalk ink pad, highlighted the edges with a Martha Stewart blue glitter pen and then did some faux stitching.  The patterned backing papers are from a Amy Butler K&Co paper pad called Belle.  They are certainly louder than I normally use but they grew on me.  I have teamed the backing papers up with blue and green DCWV textured card.  I made a tag with my alcohol inks - a green, blue and also my gold.  I love the addition of the gold and at some stage must invest in the other metallic effects.  The card has been finished off with some lace, ribbon, buttons, Craftwork Cards sentiment (which was a light purple but I coloured green with a Promarker and then added some dots with the Martha Stewart glitter pen used around the image), glittery fibres and Dawn Bibby Design glitter flowers (which I bought in Dawn's shop when I went up there for my 40th birthday nearly 2 years ago) with blue flower brad centres.

Crafty Ann's Challenge #49 - Make yourself uncomfortable

The challenge topic this fortnight is "make yourself uncomfortable" which means stepping out of your comfort zone by using a technique or colour combo (or both) that you usually avoid.  As soon as I saw this "acetate card" came to mind - I like the effect but I hate all the messing around getting the layers front and back both sides in line so no workings can be seen.

All I will say is that my card nearly went in the bin so many times.  I used a piece of acetate designed by Dawn Bibby that a crafty friend gave me some years ago to form the card base.  As I have had so many problems with My Craft Studio not printing now to the printer I have had for a few years I have had to "bite the bullet" and try using another software package so I am trying to get used to Craft Artist.  It will take me some time I know but I took in some of Crafty Ann's flower embossed backing papers, some polished stone backing papers, a new gold frame, a new butterfly, added some buttons/bows/ribbon and hey presto the card was ready to be coloured in with my Promarkers.  I then used some spare paper and made some paper flowers with a die-cut along with making some butterflies with a die-cut.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Craft Your Days Away - make your own flowers
Cupcake Inspiration - Photo inspiration
Crafting When We Can - Do it your way

Amy's 1000 sheets of paper blog candy

Amy is celebrating her second year of crafting and giving some very yummy candy away.  Click here to go and have a look.  The candy ends on 23 September 2011.

Commissioned Birthday Card

This is my first commissioned card in a long time as I had to take some time out to sort out things in relation to my late mum.  I was asked to make a card for a lady's friend who likes a tipple and the colour blue.  Obviously a Bugaboo image sprung to mind.  She is called Ruby Tidbits - Tequila.  She looks quite a character doesn't she?  I have coloured the image with Promarkers and followed a tutorial by the ever so talented Coops for adding a dotted texture around an image.  I didn't have khaki so I had to use satin so mine has come out a bit differently but I like the effect.  For my card I have followed the CRAFT Challenge sketch.  The backing papers are Papermania and plain cardstock and dark blue vellum.  I cut the image out with a Nestabilities die.  The card is finished off with some star gems. gingham ribbon, circle brad and a Craftwork Cards sentiment.  Te feedback for the card - the recipient was in stitches when she saw the card and had many a tale to tell about tequilas!!!!

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Catch the Bug Challenge - Anything goes
Passion for Promarkers - Anything goes

Challenge Card

I so love my Promarkers and would also like to try to Flexmarkers so I was surprised to see on the Letraset Blog I subscribe to that they were on their third challenge.  How did I miss the others?  This time you have to follow a link and print off a colouring sheet and colour in for Challenge 3.  I can't say it was an easy pattern to colour with my hands and eyes but I got there in the end and thoroughly enjoyed colouring it in.  I decided to use autumn colours of red, yellow and green.  I used four yellows, four oranges and three greens and I will say for the intricate bits the fine nibs were a definite help.  Need to get some more I think.
I decided that the image was so nice that I would make it into an 8x8 card so I distressed around the image with Tim Holtz's Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade distress ink pads.  I then mounted it on some mustard yellow card, orange card and some yellow K&Co paper.  I have made the flowers out of a book with a die-cut and coloured them with Promarkers I used for the image and help it together with corresponding brads.  I didn't think the card needed anything else as I didn't want to detract from the gorgeous image.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Over at the Paper Sundaes Challenge the topic is "Magnolias" so this little Tilda card I made whilst on holiday will fit the bill.  The patterned papers were a freebie from Simply Cards and Papercraft, the burgundy card is from my stash.  Tilda has been coloured in with Promarkers and some Stickles on her pom-pom and edge of her hat, cut with a Nestabilities die and the edge distressed.  The card is finished off with some Crafty Ann's poinsettias, brads, sentiment from the magazine and some glittery star shapes.

The challenge this fortnight is "birthdays" and we are sponsored by Emma from Crafty Emma's Store.  She sells a wonderful array of crafting items so why don't you go and have a look.

For my card I have used the beautiful decoupage sheet entitled "Silk Dance".  For those that prefer pyromage/invertage it comes in that version as well.  I have decoupage the image with Pinflair glue gel and mounted it onto some plain cardstock.  The backing papers are from DCWV.  I have embossed a piece of beige pealescent cardstock with a metal effect mask and distressed it a bit.  The card is finished off with some new ric-rac ribbon that I got at the Open Day, sentiment off the computer, some decorations made with various punches and some pearl gems.  As usual the card is finished off inside to match.

For my card I have used a Red Hearts Crafty Purple Frog decoupage sheet (Amy does do pyromage/invertage sheets but I prefer decoupage).  I have decoupaged the image with Pinflair glue gel so as not to get too much height.  I have used plain gold mirri card and a gorgeous floral/embossed card I got from the Colemans Warehouse in Rushden.  The image I have mounted on some red mirri card.  The card has been finished off with a sentiment off the computer, organza ribbon, gems, Craftwork Cards card candi, felt flower I got in some blog candy and a red love heart and word "love" charm.
