Thank You Card

My eldest son has had a hard week this week as his car became poorly on Monday and he took it to the garage who suggested leaving it there.  This meant he had to leave the house at 4.30am the next day for a bus to Oxford and then Wiltshire for a University Open Day.  The car was worked on, various belts that were worn were changed and the car was returned to him on Thursday night and off he went to college.  Only to come home afterwards saying the noise was back again.  The mechanic took the car again on Friday and it was found that the air filters needed changing.  The car is back again there on Tuesday for some new front tyres but hopefully - not being rude - this is the last time my son's car will see the garage for a while.  It was hard for him without a car as he needs to drive to work and be able to get to university twice a week as well so as the mechanic had gone that "extra mile" I thought I'd make him a card for Kevin to give to him.

I have used my Cards for Men CD by Debbi Moore which is perfect.  I love this blue car and as he's a mechanic that was the obvious decoupage image to use.  I've used a backing paper from the CD and an insert and then scraps from my scraps box.  The card has been finished off with a Craftwork Cards sentiment, ribbon, buttons, bow, chipboard embellishments coloured with a metallic Brilliance ink pad and some star brads.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Pile it On - For/from a man
Ooh-la-la-Creations - Thank you
Celebrate the Occasion - Thank you
Simon Says - Anything goes
Frilly and Funky - Your vintage style (I like vintage CDs that have images and papers/inserts/embellishments to use and I also like to add ribbon, buttons, brads etc)

Crafty Ann's Challenge #62 - Christmas in March

Another fortnight is up and it's time for another challenge over at the Crafty Ann's Challenge Blog as well.  This fortnight we are being challenged to "Christmas in March".  It's hard enough for Christmas cards to be made at this time of year but when the weather for a lot has been so nice Christmas and the cold it brings will be the last things on your mind but we hope you'll have a go.
For my card I designed most of it in Craft Artist using Crafty Ann's new scrapbook kit - Rhapsody in Blue.  The colours are gorgeous but I like the frames, cogs and posh corners as well.  I've used two backing papers, patchwork corners, vellum corners, buttons and frame.  I reduced the frame down enough for my topper to fit onto.  I then printed it off.  With what we've heard on the news this week about the cost of postage going up dramatically in a short while it's handy to get extra dimension and texture digitally and then print it off as it's only one layer on a card.  The topper is from Lili of the Valley and I have distressed the edges with my Tim Holtz distressing tool and then inked with a blue chalk ink pad.  I've then added some white Stickles for snow and the pop-pom on the hat.  The card is finished off with a sentiment, some Papermania glitterations and some ribbon.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Crafty Emma - Photo inspiration
One Stitch at a Time - Anything goes
Craft Your Passion - Monochromatic
The Crazy Challenge - Add a sentiment
House of Gilli - White plus one other colour - for me the other colour I have chosen is blue

Thinking of You

A friend is going through a hard time at the moment so I thought I'd make her a card to let her know I was thinking about her.  I have used a Sugar Nellie stamp called "Woodland Fairy".  I have coloured her in with Promarkers and then cut her out with a Nestabilities die.  The backing papers are from my stash but I don't know what make they are but I thought the spots went well with the toadstool spots.  I have used some mirri card for some sparkle.  The card has been finished off with some ribbon, pearls, handmade flower made with a Marianne's Designs die with a button centre held in with wire and a Craftwork Cards sentiment.  The card was so well received.

The winner of my Saturated Canary Blog Hop image is ...............

The time has come to reveal the winner of the Olympic Gold image that Krista from Saturated Canary designed recently.  As my husband was reading and my two sons are off doing their own thing I decided to enlist the help of Random.Org.  The winner of my image is:
no 1 who happens to be the very lucky Hazel from Hazel's Happy House.  Congratulations Hazel.  I shall get in touch with Krista and let her know you were my winner and she will forward the image onto you.

Wild Orchid Challenge - 19 March 2012

Over at the Wild Orchid Challenge the topic is a BINGO board.  Oh I do like a BINGO board as it gives you the options on what to pick for your card.  For my card I have gone with both daignonals so it would either be gems-flowers-ribbon/lace or pins-flowers-emboss.
For my card I have used a Crafts and Me digital image called Aliah by the ever so talented Hannah Lynn.  I have coloured the image with my Promarkers and then used a tearing ruler around the edge and emphasised the edge with a pink chalk ink pad.  The backing papers are from the Crafty Individuals pad I used the other day and are very spring-like which is what I wanted.  I have embossed a piece of pink mirri card with a small Docrafts daisy embossing folder that I got free with a Creativity! Magazine.  The card has been finished off with some Wild Orchid Crafts cherry blossoms and instead of cutting off the wire I have wound it around my wooden Dawn Bibby pokey tool to add a bit of dimension, gems,  decorative pins,Craftwork Cards sentiment, lace, flowers, and some gingham ribbon.

I am also entering this card into the Crafts and Me challenge this week which is "light and airy spring colours".

I am giddy with excitement!!!!

A little while ago the ever so talented Krista Smith aka Saturated Canary held a competition whereby 10 people would win a digital image to be made from an idea they had given.  For days I put off entering as I saw some of the entries and thought they were nothing like my ideas.  In the end I decided to enter two ideas.  I was wondering the other day about the winners.

To my SURPRISE yesterday I found that I had won a digital image to be made.  My hubby was at home so I dashed and told him - excited or what????  It wasn't until today I found out which of my choices had won and I have to say Krista has done my idea proud.  This year in the UK we will be celebrating many events but two massive ones are the Diamond Jubilee (which was my other choice for a digital image) and also the London 2012 Olympics (which is the image Krista picked to draw).  I also thought an image like this would be good for any sports event, school sports day etc.

To celebrate the release of these new images Krista is holding a blog hop.  I for one can't wait to go and see what other images won alongside my request.  It would be wonderful for Krista and her Design Team if you could show their support and take part in the blog hop.  If you would like a chance of winning  a copy of my Saturated Canary Olympics digital image please leave a comment on this post before 7.59pm on Sunday 25 March 2012 and I will get a member of my family to pick a winner.  Krista will then send the winner the image direct.
Well, I suppose I'd better show you the card I made.  I thought this would be perfect to go on my regular charity stall as it could be given to anyone that has done well in a sporty event.  I have used various grungy red/white and blue papers from Summertime Designs including spots, stripes, stars and even fireworks.
My gorgeous image I have coloured in with Promarkers, cut around with a Nestabilities die and kept the die in place and chalked around with a blue shimmer chalk.  The backing papers I have matted and layering, inking the edges of all pieces of paper as per normal.  I then made some bunting out of the scraps of paper leftover and put the word "congratulations" on them.  I then took some white seam binding and added bands of red and blue to make my own red, white and blue ribbon.  The card has been finished off with the ribbons, faux stitching, star charms attached to a chain, gems and buttons.

It is such a honour to have this image made from my idea and I know the other winners will think the same.  If my mum would have been alive yesterday I would have been straight onto the phone to her to tell her what I'd won.  She always loved to hear if I'd won anything as she knew I put anything that I won to good use for my cards that I make to sell to raise funds for different charities.

Don't forget you have until 11.59pm on Sunday to leave me a comment if you want a chance of winning a copy of this digital image.

The Crafty Purple Frog Challenge - 22 March 2012

My oh my the weeks seem to be flying don't they.  It only seems five minutes since we were all looking towards the New Year and what 2012 would bring and now we are near the end of the third month.  Well onto business.  It's time for another challenge at the Crafty Purple Frog and the topic is "anything goes".
For my card I have chosen the decoupage image called "kimono rainbow mermaid".  I can't remember if I've used this image before or not but she is a beauty.  She does come in a pyromage/invertage version as well.  The backing papers are from a Crafty Individuals paper pad which I got when I joined the Craft Stamper magazine over a year ago and this is the first time I have used it.  The papers are gorgeous and of a lovely quality.  I have added some ric-rac ribbon to the side for some dimension and texture.  The card has been finished off with some peel-off corners, Craftwork Cards sentiment, flowers, gems and a lace bow.

Sweet Pea Stampers Challenge - 16 March 2012

It is also time for another challenge over at the Sweet Pea Stampers Challenge Blog.  This time the topic is "luck of the Irish".
For my card I have used the Ching Chou-Kuik Sweet Pea Stamp called Ocean Fantasy.  She is certainly a beauty and so is the cat!!  I have coloured the image with Promarkers, die-cut and inked around the edges with a chalk ink pad.  The papers are all 6x6 papers I had loose.  One night last week I decided to put them all into colour families and I've already used about 10 sheets up by doing this.  It saves looking through a pile that is about 4 inches high!!  The papers I have distressed with my Tim Holtz distressing tool.  One of the papers was double-sided so I scored the corner, folder over and in with a brad.  The card has been finished off with some lace, pearls, buttons, peel-off sentiment, brads and some green die-cut butterflies (these were cut from a scrap of green mirri card and after 20 photos they still look black but they are green).

Over at the Sweet Pea Stampers Challenge we unfortunately have had to say good-bye to some Design Team (DT) members recently.  We therefore are having a Design Team call.  Do you love Sweet Pea Stamps just like the rest of the DT?  Are you able to make a card/creation every two weeks?  If the answer is "yes" please make a card/project and enter this fortnights' challenge and put DT after your name.

Crafty Ann's Challenge #61 - Spring into spring

The time has come for another challenge over at Crafty Ann's Challenge Blog.  This fortnight the challenge is "spring into spring" so Crafty Ann is looking for spring or Easter themed projects.

Last year I decided when printing out digital images I would print out two of the same image because I was making a mess of so many and then having to re-print.  Now that I have two images printed out I rarely make a mistake so I then end up with extra cards.  This means I have not one but two cards to show for you today.  I have used Crafty Ann's new digital image of a vase of daffodils.  My favourite flowers are roses, followed by poppies and then followed by daffodils so I had to use this image.  I have coloured in with Promarkers, die-cut the image and chalked around the edge with a chalk ink pad.  The backing papers are all abstract papers from Crafty Ann's digi shop so I went for the colours yellow, orange and yellow to be spring-like.  The cards have been finished off with a sentiment, bow, Marianne Designs die-cut butterfly and ribbons.

Here are both cards side-by-side so you can see the subtle differences:

Well we had a gorgeous array of wonderful cards/projects this last fortnight.  This fortnight we challenged to "song title for inspiration" and make sure you include a sentiment.  We are being sponsored by:

and

For my card I have used the Limited Runs Digital Stamp called Liz because as soon as I saw her the song "Lady in Red" by Chris De Burgh came into my head.  I have coloured the image with Promarkers.  The backing papers are from my Tim Holtz backing paper my son got me fore Christmas 2010 and it's got too many gaps in the paper pad for my liking now!!  I have embossed some red mirri card that had a pattern on it I didn't like - by embossing this is a way of using up mirri card that has a pattern you don't like as once it's embossed you won't see it.  The card has been finished off with some ribbon given to me by a friend, Craftwork Cards sentiment, flowers , doily and some gems.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Monthly Charity Stall

Today was the day for our regular monthly stall to be set up.  Thankfully I had some Mother's Day cards leftover from last year as I have been unable to make new ones.
I wasn't sure my mum would like her Mother's Day card last year.  She LOVED green but as her birthday was near to Mother's Day I made a green card for her birthday and a yellow one for her for Mother's Day.  She LOVED it especially the fairy and the gem overload!!!  I never imagined the card I made for my mum last year would be the last one she had off me as she died suddenly three months later.

Fab n Funky Challenge - 7 March 2012

I made this card and posted on my blog the other day.  The image and backing papers were from Joanna Sheen's Cardmakers Year CD.  As I had some images leftover on the sheet I printed off another sheet of backing paper and made four cards for the Docrafts Craft for Life Appeal.  This saves the images getting dog-eared in a box and means the cards can be sold to help a worthwhile charity.  I take some into our local shop, give some to my aunt to take into her local shop (but normally they don't get that far - the cards get kept by her and she'll give them the money!!) or I sell them on my regular charity stall (for these cards sold I give the 100% raised to the Craft for Life Appeal).
As you can see I have made these cards into Easter cards, keeping them simple as I know funds are very limited for people these days.  I have just done simple matting and layering and the cards have been finished off with sentiments off the computer and Papermania Glitterations.

I am entering these cards into the following challenges:

Papercrafting Journey - Anything goes
Inspire me Friday - Anything goes
I Brake for Challenges - Easter
My Mum's Craft Shop - Spring is springing

The Crafty Purple Frog Challenge - 8 March 2012

It's time for another challenge over at the Crafty Purple Frog.  This time the topic is "pink and girly".
For my card I have used the Crafty Purple Frog image called "Carnation Fairy".  Isn't she gorgeous?  I wanted to keep the card "pink and girly" but wanted to keep it springlike so no heavy colours.  I have cut out the decoupage - yes you can by pyromage/invertage sheets - but I prefer decoupage.  I have laid the image on a Nestabilities oval scallop.  The backing papers, the pink and the pink/green flowery are both from the Crafty Purple Frog and are available here.  You get a wonderful array of 50 12x12 papers for just £5.00 - what a bargain.  I have finished off the card with a gorgeous pink feather, flowers, Craftwork Cards die-cut sentiment and pearls.

Passion for Promarkers Challenge - 6 March 2012

Over at the Passion for Promarkers Challenge this week the topic is "for mum/female relative".
I recently attend the Stamperama event at Stevenage.  There were lots of stalls there but there were some I had to visit including Crafts and Me.  I see many stamps/digital images on blogs but it's always nice to see them before buying.  I bought two stamps but after talking to the lovely Theresa and Tracy and seeing the beautiful samples made by the Crafts and Me Design Team another stamp came home with me.  The two of them were so friendly and had so much passion for what they were selling/demonstrating.  A stamp I was getting I realised the image hadn't got legs and I tend to steer clear of these but now I wish I'd got it!!!

For my card I have used this gorgeous Crafts and Me stamp called "Angels with Emeralds" by Jasmine Becket-Griffith.  The image I have coloured with Promarkers, distressed around the edge of the image with my Tim Holtz distressing tool and then edged with a blue chalk ink pad.  The two blue patterned papers are from a Prima book called "Reflections".  The quality of these papers is brilliant, on the verge of card.  I have finished the card off with some lace, pearls, ribbon, triple ribbon bow, Craftwork Cards sentiment, doily, flowers from the Artylicious Essence of Nature CD and brads.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Creative Inspirations Challenge - 29 February 2012

Over at the Creative Inspirations Challenge this week the challenge is "anything goes".  I thought this card I have made for one of my nephew's would suit this challenge.  I find it hard to make cards for teenagers especially boys but this card is made using a Wacky Wheelz image from the La Pashe Big One CD.  I love this CD as it has a vast array of different images - lots of which I loved when they were in decoupage sheets to buy - but now they are on a CD and you can print out over and over again it is even better.  I have decoupaged up the image of the car, printed off the matching backing paper and done some simple matting and layering.  The card is finished off with a personalised insert, card candi and sentiment off the decoupage sheet.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Creative Inspirations - Anything goes

Always Something Creative - Happy birthday

Joanna Sheen Challenge - March 2012

Over at the Joanna Sheen Challenge this month the topics is "spring is in the air".  For my card I have used images and backing paper from the Joanna Sheen's Cardmakers Year CD (the daffodil image/backing paper can be found in March).  It's a while since I used this CD so it was nice to have a good look at it again.  I have done plenty of matting and layering and then decoupage up the main image to add some dimension.  I have used a Marianne's Designs Craftables die to cut a piece of yellow DCWV card which I have sanded to release the white colour core.  I have  finished the card off with a personalised insert, triple bow, card candy, Craftwork Cards sentiment and I have used two daffodil buttons that I have had for years and years and years and never used!!!
