First attempt at Distress Inks and some of Sheena Douglas' Techniques

When I was at the Stamp Addicts Open Day last week some Distress Embossing Power just fell into my basket after seeing a demo by Jennie (www.theartisticstamper.blogspot.com) so I thought I'd have a go.  She warned it's hard to judge when you've heated it up enough and sure enough I found that true.  I used an Elusive Images flower image for the centre and a U-mount swirl for the four corners and inked then put on the distressing embossing powder, heated, left it to cool and rub away which certainly hurt my fingers!!!  I then used one of Sheena Douglas's tips of using scrunched up plastic to dab colour on the edges (no expense spared - I had put the plastic packet of my Impressibilities die in the container to go in our orange bin for recycling - so I got it out and used it and it was perfect - another form of recycling!!!) of two different gold equivalent H2Os and also some green perfect pearls.  I then used the Perfect Pearls and some of the equivalent H2Os to colour in some of the image.  I'm still not sure whether the backing paper works for this kind of work ie it's too busy but it certainly held up to the inking so good on Basic Grey paper I say.

  1. Lovely work Kym love the image and must say you are braver and better at distressing than I am lol. I have tried it a couple of times lately and it is obviously one of those techniques that I need to practice time and time again.

  2. The technique is terrific, Kym, and you did great! I've had the distressing powders for a while so I guess I'd better give it a try! Thanks for the inspiration.
